Mama's Boy...

So this is my new favorite picture. I gave myself a mother's day present and had it blown up into an 8x10, and got beautiful silver frame for it. Chris and I had a wonderful mother's day, by the way. He made be breakfast (lemon riccotta and strawberry stuffed crepes), and Jack bought me a silver jack (like the toy) necklace. It is beautiful, and I would wear it all the time, accept it could seriously do some body damage to the thrashing child... So it goes into the jewlery box when I get home from work. He also went and had a portrait taken with the two of them... Father and son. I was beautiful. We then went to the park (on a rare rainless holiday in Oregon). It was so special. My first mother's day.

Beyond being a mom, things are going great. School is good (accept for when it is bad), and the small schools transformation is going forward without a hitch (accept when there are huge hitches). All in all life is beyond good, and I am doing my best to cherish it while it lasts. After all he'll be 4 months soon... Which just goes to show you how fast time flies.

A Face Like That...

How can you not love a face like that. He has a huge round head, and little chunky cheeks... All the better to kiss and love. He is just a doll. Plus he has learned to blow spit bubbles, which is tons of fun.

Mother's Day Reflections
So I think I have just stumbled onto one of the truly ironic things about life. Every year we celebrate Mother's day... And the one thing mothers want on Mother's Day... A day where they don't have to be a mom. You know... Let me sleep in and pretend that the baby isn't demanding food at 6:00 am. Let me be alone, and take a bath, and forget that the house needs cleaning. Cook me breakfast, so I can forget that normally I have to do it with a baby on my hip. Funny isn't it. I have to say that I am looking forward to my first mother's day. I don't want to use it to forget that I am a mom (well maybe a little). Chris says that this is the most important mother's day, because not only can I be honored for being a mom... But also I get to milk the fact that I was pregnant for 9 months, that I had hella morning sickness, and that I went through labor. And I will... I am going to milk it for all it is worth. But mostly I want to take the day and think about the fact that I have a family now. A family of my own. I think I love that more than anything. Watching Chris with Jack, and thinking about how our family will grow, and the traditions we will create together, and pass down from generation to generation. Pretty sappy I know... But it is so cool too.

May 6th, 2006
Jack is 1/4 of a year old today. I can't believe how fast time has flown by. He is getting so big, so fast. It is almost unbelievable. He has had so many milestones already, that it is hard to imagine whatelse he will soon be able to do. He has discovered his hands, and spends a good deal of time exploring his face with them. It has lead to several little scratches on his cheeks, but he doesn't seem to mind. He is also now sleeping in his crib. For those of you who have heard the saga of the bed sharing experience, you know this is a big step... Maybe not for Jack, but for me! He is getting a little round in the face, and has little rolly legs, but besides that he is long and lean like his dad. He has the most incredible blue eyes. I pray that they stay that way. I think he'll have his daddy's hair, light brown with blonde hi-lights. He already has his daddy's funky hairline. I am so in love!

My Future's So Bright... I Have to Wear Shades.
Little Jack attends his first baseball game. We went to watch our nephew Andrew play in his first game of the season. He won (of course), but the whole thing sure got us thinking. It won't be long before Jack is old enough to want to get involved, and active. Next thing we know, we'll be carting him around town to T-Ball practice, drum lessons, art classes... The whole bit. Chris and I have never been what one might call "active." We have always been happy being artsy instead. Now we have this little boy, who kicks like he wants to play soccer already, and you can't help but to wonder what is he going to be. Is he going to be the jock, a prep, an drama geek, a speech nerd, a band geek.... What? It is scary and fun all at the same time. We can't wait to find out.

In other news, Chris has declared that we have officially become white trash. As many of you know I have since high school been the proud owner of a 73 VW Bug. "Janice" is my baby, and I have been reluctant to give her up. So, instead, she sits collected dust and bugs in my driveway. Today, however, we discovered that she has found a new occupation as a cat hotel. We found a mama cat, and a litter of 5 kittens sleeping in the front seat. I think it might be time to give Janice up to a good home... or a junk yard. Whatever!
